What we look for first on almost every site.
- Every entrance and exit. Aim a camera at each door from the inside so faces are captured walking in.
- Parking and approach paths. Wide-angle, panoramic, or 4K cameras cover lots; a license plate camera handles the gate or drive lane.
- Registers, safes, and stock. Use a narrower zoom lens where you need detail rather than area.
- Doors you want to control. Add access control doors and intercoms so we can plan access control together with the cameras.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a floor plan to use the planner?
No. Upload a floor plan, a photo of a fire-escape map, a screenshot of a PDF drawing, or a satellite view of your property from an online map. If you have nothing handy, start on a blank grid and place cameras roughly where they should go.
What do the shaded areas mean?
Each shaded wedge shows a camera's field of view — the angle it can see. Choosing a camera's picture quality and lens sets the angle automatically. For example, a 4K (8 MP) bullet camera with a standard 2.8 mm lens shows about a 115° view, and a 180° panoramic camera shows a half circle.
How far can a camera see?
It depends on resolution and lens. For each camera, the planner estimates how far away it can still identify a face, recognize a person, and detect motion, using industry-standard DORI pixel-density guidelines. Lighting and mounting height change real-world results, so our team confirms the design with you.
Is my layout saved?
Yes, in your own browser. Your plan saves automatically as you work, so you can refresh or come back later on the same device. Nothing is sent to Camera Security Now until you submit a quote request.
